This Week:  The Day the Residents Returned

A Flickr friend, Nick, is a resident of Galveston and wanted to go and look around the island and invited me to go along with him the day the residents were allowed to returned.  This week I will be sharing some photos from that visit.  Two points.  First, these photos were taken two weeks after Ike.  Galveston had done a LOT of cleaning up by this point.  Second, no matter how much cleaning Galveston had done in those two weeks, the destruction was obvious.  The city was completely trashed for lack of another phrase.  It will take months into years for Galveston to return to close to what it used to be.  I knew within being on the island for about 5 minutes that no photos that I took would really convey what I was seeing.
