This Week: Thorne Miniature Rooms
Lovely house isn't it? It IS lovely and it is tiny. It is a miniature room at the Art Institute of Chicago. This week photos from the Thorne Miniature Rooms. More about how these rooms came to be later in the week, but first a personal note. When I was growing up I had a dollhouse. My dollhouse was made of wood, on wheels and had two stories with three rooms on each level. Each room had miniature furniture in it. Sofas, tables, beds, chairs. I loved that dollhouse and all the miniatures in it. I loved rearranging the furniture and looking at the lovely detail on the tiny pieces. And that house was even more special because it used to be my mother's dollhouse when she was little. And my grandmother is the one who made a lot of the pieces, furniture, curtains, etc. I had very limited time in Chicago and I knew it was most important to see things like American Gothic and the Impressionist wing, but a part of me really longed to see the miniatures room. And I did! Although I really could have spent two to three times as long as I did. Next visit!
