This Week: The Panama Canal
And so it goes. Ship after ship comes and goes through the canal. There is always a traffic jam of ships waiting to enter the locks from either side. The canal operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It has only closed temporarily a few times in it's almost 100 year existence. The most recent time was for a few hours during the U.S. invasion.
I kind of wonder if there was some dormant Panama gene that was activated when I stepped foot in the country. Generally Panamanians are known for being very proud of their country and I feel the same and I was only there a week. The Panama Canal really is an engineering marvel and it was one of the highlights of my trip even though at the time I was feeling under the weather. I could sit here for hours watching the ships rise and fall and go through the lock system. I look forward to seeing it again.
