This Week: The Hobby Center
One of the great things about this building is that there is a parking garage right behind the building. It is connected with a large overhang and this smaller shelter. I like that the architecture from the front of the building is carried over to the back and to something as boring as a parking garage walkway.
Houston has a very vibrant theater district. It is second only behind New York City for number of seats in a downtown area and is one of only five cities in the US with permanent professional resident companies in all the major performing arts disciplines of opera, ballet, music and theater. This is of course one of the very reasons I love living here, but when all the companies are performing the same night and everyone is using the same underground parking system it can make things move very slowly. The Hobby Center's separate garage erases that problem.
